The Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly of Indonesia meets HE Al-Jarwan

           

HE Zulkifli Hasan, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia received HE Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, and his accompanying delegation, at the complex of the National Parliament in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.

For his part, HE Al-Jarwan explained the organizational structure of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and its four main agencies: The Constituent Assembly, the Presidency Bureau, the General Assembly, and the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace. In addition, HE Al-Jarwan clarified the role of the Council in spreading a culture of tolerance and peace, which helps in confronting the threat of terrorism, intolerance, hatred, racism, ethnic cleansing, and sectarian and racial extremism.

HE Al-Jarwan invited to the Republic of Indonesia to join the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace and explained the importance of this parliament in providing an international window to transfer the Indonesian school experience in the field of religious and ethnic tolerance, where Indonesia is a model of diversity and peaceful coexistence and Its experience should be shared with other States.

For his part, HE Zulkifli Hasan, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia, affirmed his full support for the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and noted that the principles and objectives of the Council are compatible with the principles of the Indonesian Constitution, which obliges Indonesia to participate actively in the achievement of security, stability and peace and to promote the values of religious, ethnic and cultural tolerance.

On the other hand, HE Bambang Soesatyo, Speaker of the People’s Representative Council of Indonesia (Parliament), received HE Al-Jarwan at the Parliament House on Thursday, May 3, 2018 and was given a detailed explanation of the Council, its objectives, and activities.

For his part, HE Bambang Soesatyo expressed his appreciation for the Council’s efforts to promote tolerance, peace and stability, expressing his hope that the Council will contribute to providing solutions to countries suffering from violence and intolerance around the world. HE Soesatyo confirmed his support for the Council and noted that he will discuss with the rest of the Parliament leaders the invitation to join the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace.
